SPECIAL EDUCATION

It is the policy of the school departments that all children living within the districts who are in need of Special Education services be identified and evaluated, whether the child attends private, parochial, or public school. If you are a parent or guardian or know of a child between the ages of 3 and 20 who may need but are not receiving sp Ed services, please contact the following: Superintendent of Schools, 746-3500 (East) or 746-3470 (Medway).

Services provided are for those:

Enrolling in kindergarten in the fall and will be screened in the spring Transfer student

Enrolled in a private school or receive home schooling

TO: Parents/Guardians who reside in EAST MILLINOCKET, MEDWAY AND WOODVILLE SCHOOL DEPARTMENTS Notice is hereby given to parents/guardians of children who are enrolled in private schools or home schools, highly mobile students (migrant or homeless), students incarcerated in county jails and any student who is suspected of being a student with a disability and in need of Special Education and supportive services (Federal Regulation 300.15 and Maine Special Education Regulation 7.1 and 7.2).

SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS

The Maine Legislature passed a law, Chapter 448, in 2009 that authorizes the Me. Commissioner of Ed to require local school units to request that parents provide students’ social security numbers to the school. Your compliance with this request is completely voluntary. We must request that you provide your child’s social security number but you are NOT REQUIRED to provide the number to us.

NOTICE OF NON-DISCRIMINATION

The school departments do not discriminate in their education and employment programs on the basis of age; race, color, national origin; gender; marital or parental status and disability, and complies with title VI of the Civil rights Act of 1964 (34 CFR Part 100), Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (34 CFR Part 106). Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (34 CFT Part 104) and the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1980. ASBESTOS NOTICE

All schools in the school departments have been inspected for the presence of asbestos containing materials. A written plan for the management of these materials has been developed. This plan is available for inspection at Medway Middle School, Opal Myrick Elementary School, Schenck High School, as well as the Superintendent’s Office: AHERA Designee
