SPECIAL EDUCATION:

It is the policy of the Millinocket School Department; that all children living within these districts who are in need of Special Education services be identified and evaluated, whether the child attends private, parochial, or public school.  If you are a parent or guardian or know of a child between the ages of 3 and 20 who may need but are not receiving special education services, please contact the following: Millinocket School Department: 207-723-6400

Screening and services are provided to eligible children/students who are:

• Enrolling in PreK and kindergarten in the fall and will be screened in the spring.

• Transferring from another school district, and

• Enrolled in a private school or receive home schooling

The Millinocket School District will be destroying special education records of individuals who were born between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 1998. Anyone wanting their records pertaining to special education services should contact Millinocket Special Education Office before 12/19/2026.

CHILD FIND:

Notice is hereby given to parents/guardians of children who are enrolled in private schools or home school, highly mobile students (migrant or homeless), students incarcerated in county jails and any student who is suspected of being a student with a disability and in need of Special Education and supportive services (Federal Regulation 300.15 and Maine Special Education Regulation 7.1 and 7.2).  Please contact the Special Education Department at (207) 723-6405, if you desire additional information.

PROGRAM ACCESSIBILITY:

All programs or activities offered by the Millinocket School Department when viewed in their entirety shall be readily accessible to individuals with disabilities.  Information is available relating to the existence and location of services, activities, and facilities that are accessible to and useable by individuals with disabilities.

STUDENT RECORDS:

Parents or eligible students (age 18 years or older) are entitled to certain rights and protection under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.  A complete copy of the Millinocket School Department student record policy may be obtained by contacting the Office of Student Services.

These rights include:

• Inspect and review the student’s educational records.

• Request the amendment of the student’s educational records.

• Consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records, except   

  to the extent allowed in accordance with 34 CFR, Section 99 and

• File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education.

Student records maintained by the school include:

• Academic information such as grades, progress reports, student work samples, achievement test data, etc.

• Statistical information including aptitude scores, mental ability, permanent school health records, etc, and

• Directory information on students, such as names, ages, grade, field of study, participation in officially recognized           activities, and sports and awards received.

  • Transfer of records from one school district to another may proceed without parental consent.

   All directory information may be made public without notice unless the school is notified in writing by July 1 for the upcoming school year or within 30 days after enrollment, whichever is later, that such information not be released to persons other than authorized school personnel without prior written consent.

The Millinocket School Department will forward educational records to other agencies or institutions that have requested the records and in which the student seeks or intends to enroll.

PESTICIDES

When required by regulations, the school will notify staff, students and parents/guardians at least five days in advance of planned pesticide treatments in the school or on school grounds, including playgrounds and playing fields.  When required by regulations, signs will be posted at each point of access to the treated area and in a common area of the school at least two working days prior to the application and for at least 48 hours following the application in accordance with applicable Maine Board of Pesticides Control regulations.

Non-chemical pest management methods will be implemented whenever possible to provide the desired control.  The choice of using a pesticide will be based on a review of other available options (sanitation, exclusion, mechanical means, trapping, biological control) and a determination that these options have not worked or are not feasible. When it has been determined that a pesticide must be used to achieve pest management goals, the least hazardous effective pesticide should be selected.  Application will be conducted in a manner that, to the extent practicable using currently available technology, minimizes human risk.

ASBESTOS:

The federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requires local education agencies inform all school employees and students of asbestos-related activities, such as asbestos inspections and removal projects, that have been undertaken in the Millinocket School Department once a year.  This information is recorded in the Millinocket School Department’s Asbestos Management Plan.  The Asbestos Management Plan for the Millinocket School Department is located in the Superintendent’s Office at 199 State Street, Millinocket, Maine.  The Asbestos Management Plan is available for review during regular office hours.  Copies are available at the cost of $.25 per page.

SCHOOL NUTRITION

2026-2027 Meal Pricing:  Breakfasts and lunches will be free to all PreK-12 students for the first reimbursable meal.  A la carte is provided if there are funds available in the student’s account.  Credits are made by sending in payment to Millinocket School Nutrition, 199 State St., Millinocket, ME 04462 or by making on-line payments to MySchoolBucks.com, or by bringing it to school.  If sending the payment to school, please send in an envelope with the student’s name and grade on it. Please make checks payable to Millinocket School Nutrition.  The amount will be credited to the student’s account, (change is not given to the students at Granite Street School).

DRINKING WATER

SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS

Providing your student’s social security number at time of enrollment is not mandatory.  Parents/Guardians may opt not to disclose it.
