NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING FOR

US EPA BROWNFIELDS CLEANUP GRANT ACTIVITIES

The Town of East Millinocket, Maine, has been awarded a United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Brownfields Cleanup Grant to fund proposed remediation activities to abate hazardous materials, decommission aboveground storage tanks, and remediate impacted soils within the western portion of the Fuel Storage Area at the former Great Northern Paper Mill site located at 50 Main Street, East Millinocket, Maine.

A draft Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) has been prepared for this project and is available for review by the public at the East Millinocket Municipal Building, 53 Main Street, East Millinocket, Maine during normal business hours (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm through September 8, 2026; 8:00 am to 4:00 pm thereafter) or may be requested from Michael Michaud, Town of East Millinocket Selectboard Member, via phone at (207) 746-3376 or email at selectmen1@eastmillinocket.org. A public meeting will be held at 5:00 pm, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Katahdin Higher Education Center, One Dirigo Drive, East Millinocket, ME 04430. If necessary, a link to attend this meeting virtually can be provided if requested via the email above by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Written public comments will be accepted during a 30-day public comment period, which will end at least 30 days after the publication of this notice, on Monday, September 14, 2026. Persons wishing to comment on the ABCA may do so at any time prior to that date through one or more of the following methods: 1) via mail to Michael Michaud, Selectboard Member, Town of East Millinocket, 53 Main Street, East Millinocket, ME 04430; 2) via email to selectmen1@eastmillinocket.org; and/or 3) in person at the aforementioned public meeting, to be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Katahdin Higher Education Center, One Dirigo Drive, East Millinocket, ME 04430.
